CLASS TYPES:
Pre-School Program- Designed to introduce our younger students to the different styles of dance offered at Viva through combination classes. Children will learn basic dance steps and movements in subjects such as tap, ballet, jazz, hula, and tumbling while working to develop their coordination, fine motor and social skills. Our Pre-School Program is great preparation for school as our children learn many skills needed such as their right from their left, how to take turns, the beginning of a structured classroom setting, and also get a great jump start on parent-child separation easing the anxiety of a child’s first year or two of pre-school or kindergarten.
Tap – Traditional tap training designed to build coordination, rhythm, and style. Students progress thru increased speed and more difficult combinations of tap technique.
Jazz – An exciting dance with intense, high-paced movement to music from past to present. Students will work on improving their flexibility, strength, balance, and style while concentrating on developing proper dance techniques and progression skills such as kicks, turns, jumps, and leaps.
Ballet - The foundation of all dance forms. Body placement, flexibility, alignment, strength, poise, and grace are all achieved through barre and center work.
Lyrical – A cross between ballet and jazz set to music with lyrics and has soft, expansive, and sustained movements that tell a story. It is a style of dance which encourages dancers to become very expressive through movement.
Hip-Hop – A high-energy form of street dancing that features rapid hand and foot movement. Often seen on MTV and television commercials, it has become one of the most popular dance forms throughout the country.
Tumbling – A form of acrobatics focusing on a series of floor tumbling skills beginning with somersaults and cartwheels and progressing to backhand springs and aerials.
Hula – A contemporary form of Hawaiian/Tahitian dancing emphasizing a variety of hip movements and utilizing poi balls and other ethnic props and instruments.
Competitive Team – Team Viva has been designed to promote the art of dance by providing outstanding performance and learning opportunities both on the regional and national level, giving dancers more intense training to develop and enhance their current and potential dance skills. Becoming part of the team requires a 10 – 12 month commitment and includes some traveling. Audition/Placement is required to participate.
